PROJECT OVERVIEW
Peninsula Family Service (PFS) is a non-profit, community-supported organization seeking to equitably provide nurturing, developmentally based educational programs for children from age 6 weeks through age 5 years.
For the Midway Phase 1 project, DA designed a temporary Preschool Center consisting of 2 modular units to be used while we are working on a larger 16,000 s.f. center for them consisting of 9 classrooms and several admin spaces to support the facility. The center includes our standard basis of design below, and our experience and partnerships allowed for an efficient process keeping to the budget and schedule.
● Direct access to outdoor play
● Accessible entry for ADA & strollers
● Nature based play, age appropriate, encouraging exploration
● Added windows to increase natural light
● Single point of entry for security
● Natural materials, improving health of occupants
● Warm and welcome spaces
● Open classrooms to allow for proper supervision
● Age-appropriate toilet and diaper areas
● Standard up to code mechanical, electrical and plumbing
The center embodies the principles that permeate our projects, including a direct connection between the classrooms and outdoor play areas, a communal entry that encourages parent interactions as well as teacher support areas that allow for optimal teacher observation throughout the classrooms.
